GRP Sectional Tank

REQUIREMENT

We were asked to design, specify, install and commission a large floor standing GRP sectional tank within the basement of a new residential building to offer stormwater attenuation. Variable speed pumps were required to comply with the water authority’s discharge requirements.

METHOD

• Due to its dimensions (8m long, 3m wide, 2m high) a sectional chamber was specified, constructed from 1m² panels.
• The tank was erected on a concrete plinth formed by the main contractor.
• We installed and commissioned a dry well mounted pump set after the discharge pipework had been connected by the main contractor.

RESULT

• Dry well mounted pumps allow for easy maintenance, as they can be removed without confined space entry.
• Our design provides top and side access to the chamber for cleaning.
• Ultrasonic level controls continuously monitor the water level and will speed up and slow down the pumps in a linear fashion as the water level rises and falls.
• Due to the length of the overall refurbishment project, handover to the end client will not be for some time. In the meantime, we are providing a short term service agreement to the main contractor. Subsequently, we will offer a service agreement to the end client.
• Routine maintenance can lower the lifetime cost of the pump set and prevent breakdowns.

FOCUS ON:

STORMWATER ATTENUATION

Stormwater attenuation is becoming more important during the planning permission stages of a new development.

Water authorities are restricting the amount of water a new development can put into the mains sewers due to increasing demand on the existing infrastructure.
