REQUIREMENT

A reinforced concrete chamber was formed under an electrical transformer to collect surface water from around its bunded base. Due to the possibility of contamination by coolant, this water could not drain via gravity to the surface water sewer. Instead, two chemical resistant pumps were required to pump this water to a foul sewer.

METHOD

• A quotation was submitted based on the client’s drawings.
• A pre-installation site survey was conducted to ensure the site was ready for our engineers.
• We contacted several manufacturers to ensure a competitive price on chemical resistant pumps that would meet our specifications.
• Due to the location, we specified an external weatherproof control panel.

RESULTS

• We provided a bespoke pumping station tailored for a unique application.
• We minimised installation time by conducting a pre-installation survey.
• We installed, wet-tested and commissioned the pump station before handing over to the client.

FOCUS ON:

CHEMICAL RESISTANT PUMPS

Chemical resistant pumps are usually constructed from stainless steel or plastic depending on the chemicals they are designed to resist.

Coated cast-iron pumps are also available, however chips and scratches can result in the protective coating being penetrated.

The seals within the pumps are often made from silicon carbide to ensure they are also chemically resistant.
