REQUIREMENT

A pump station was required for a 4 hectare construction site of a major industrial development. It would connect to the main sewer, which otherwise would require costly upgrading of infrastructure. The pump station would need to comply with the water authority’s restriction on flow rates.

Installation would be into a large 1800mm deep by 4500mm concrete ring chamber via a small 600mm by 600mm access cover.

Work would need to be carried out on the site without the benefit of permanent power or water supply.

METHOD

Computer modelling was used to calculate friction loss over the pumped distance, taking into account pumping route. From this analysis the correct pump was specified to comply with the water authority restrictions.

Our engineers installed, commissioned and wet tested the pump station before providing a full handover service to the main contractor.

RESULT

• Edincare engineers worked in isolated areas on a large site.
• The engineers were qualified in confined entry and each vehicle carried a man riding tripod, gas detector and 10 minute evacuation set.
• A full handover service allowed main contractor to operate the pumps and pass on training to new owners.

FOCUS ON:

COMPLYING WITH WATER AUTHORITY FLOW RATE RESTRICTIONS

To prevent surcharging, water authorities will often place flow rate restrictions on a site or require a costly upgrade to the main sewer that it connects to.

Upgrading the infrastructure can be costly or impractical, so
complying with the flow rate restrictions is often preferred. This can be achieved through careful analysis of the site and correct specification of the pumping station.

Our expert team is practised in analysing the requirements of site and water authority and designing systems that meet the needs of both.
