Project Type

Supply and installation of ductile iron pipework

Products Used

Ductile iron pipework

Onsite Duration

5 days

Location

Baker Street, London

REQUIREMENT

A large foul water pumping station at the base of a two storey basement would require drainage by a vehicular tanker during a long term mains power supply failure situation. To facilitate this a fixed suction rising main would need to be installed to connect the pre-cast concrete sump to a ground level loading bay.

METHOD

A member of our special projects team surveyed the site and assessed the best route to take using the existing voids within the building taking into account the vertical distance, length of the pipework and likely forces to be exerted on the rising main; ductile iron pipework was selected as the best material to use for this project. A comprehensive quotation was provided which itemised the materials required and the programme of works.

The installation took five days and involved working at high level and within confined spaces, which presented challenges due to the weight of the ductile iron pipework.

RESULT

The pipework will allow regular maintenance to be carried out in a more hygienic and timely manner.

The suction main also completely removes the hazard of running temporary pipework down stairwells.

Edincare’s comprehensive engineering stores and highly trained staff enabled installation without the need to hire extra safety equipment or tools, or subcontract any of the works.

FOCUS ON:

HEALTH AND SAFETY TRAINING OF STAFF

The safety of our teams and others is paramount. Prior to any site work we issue a site-specific Risk Assessment Method Statement which identifies hazards and methods to avoid them.

Our engineers are extensively trained to use safe practices and appropriate safety equipment.

Common hazards faced are confined spaces, biological and chemical agents, working at height, heavy lifting and electricity. All engineers carry CSCS and IPAF cards to confirm their competence.

We are accredited by the British Safety Council, Constructionline, Safe Contractor, CHAS and NICEIC.
